The Playlist — local bands, interviews and alternative music with Julie Cottrell and Stewart Ireland.
Julie Cottrell has had a long and happy career in radio, starting at Wey Valley Radio in March 1993. She was immediately recruited to the news team by the Head of News Val French, because of her degree in English. She also co-presented The Sunday Alternative with Val, and her own show, called the Flipside.
When Wey Valley Radio became part of the County Sound Network, Julie went on to work as a broadcast journalist and newsreader on Star FM in Slough, Virgin Radio, XFM, The Eagle, County Sound Radio Network, and Delta Radio. She also worked as a press officer for Surrey Police and East Hampshire District Council, before going back to her first love by working as a broadcast journalist for BBC Radio Surrey. She’s been with the ‘new’ Wey Valley Radio since it’s launch in 2017.
These days she co-hosts ‘The Playlist’ on Monday nights with Stewart Ireland, and Catherine-Jackson Smith (who runs The Lounge Bar in Alton). She is also one of the directors of Wey Valley Radio.
