Alton’s voice just got a lot louder. Wey Valley Radio is now on digital radio right across East Hampshire, taking its potential audience from around 25,000 people to almost 67,000.
Wey Valley Radio, the voice of Alton, is celebrating its ninth year on air with the launch of a completely redesigned website, giving listeners across Alton and North East Hampshire a new way to connect with the station beyond the airwaves.
The company that Wey Valley Radio is a part of, has been awarded the licence to broadcast DAB to East Hampshire.
The community stations in Alton, Haslemere and Petersfield are working with technical provider UK DAB Networks to apply for a digital radio licence.
Alton's community radio station has a new up to date studio thanks to a grant of £9,007 from the National Lottery. Wey Valley Radio, which is based at the Alton Assembly Rooms in the heart of Alton, has been given the cash injection towards new essential equipment and running costs for the station for the next year. We are back on air following a seven-year break. The brand new version of Wey Valley Radio has been set up as a not-for-profit company, run principally by volunteers. It is now broadcasting on 101.1 FM to listeners living across the GU34 area.
We are delighted to today announce that Ofcom have awarded us a licence to broadcast to Alton for a period of 5 years.
