The Old Record Club is two hours of carefully chosen music from the 50s to the 80s. Rather than recycling the same familiar hits, Steve plays music from the 60s to the 80s but tries to avoid the obvious tracks most oldies stations go for — digging deeper into the era to unearth the forgotten, the overlooked and the genuinely surprising.

The show features a number of recurring highlights. The Birthday File spotlights artists with birth dates in the upcoming week, while The SB Oldie is something found in his own weird and wonderful record collection. Listeners can also expect the Stalled@2 feature, which revisits tracks that famously peaked at number two in the charts.

The programme’s charm comes from its “music you haven’t heard in years” approach rather than just replaying obvious chart hits.

It is personality-led, music-led, and made by somebody who genuinely loves old records rather than algorithm playlists.

If you like old ILR-style radio, offshore radio culture, or proper curated oldies shows, it’s right in that tradition.
