Paul Wisdom 2017

Paul Wisdom

Background

Paul Wisdom’s radio story began right here in Alton. Back in the 1990s he was one of the youngest presenters on Wey Valley Radio, first sitting behind the microphone at around 15 years old.

Those early years brought some memorable moments. In 1993 Paul was treated to a ride as a passenger in a glider at Lasham Airfield, though he admits that flying without an engine is something he’d be too chicken to do now. He also presented a show live from Alton’s Market Square on the third Thursday in November to celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau Day, and he’d happily do it all over again.

That early start grew into a long and varied career in radio, including time with BFBS, the British Forces Broadcasting Service, which serves the Armed Forces and their families around the world.

Paul never lost his connection to the station where it all started. He was part of the team that campaigned for Wey Valley Radio’s return and successfully applied to Ofcom to bring it back to Alton as a community radio station in 2017.
