Melisa Montagnon known to listeners simply as Mel has been part of the UK radio landscape for nearly two decades.

She began her broadcasting journey 18 years ago at Radio Marsden, presenting shows in support of The Royal Marsden and discovering her passion for connecting with audiences through stories, music and community.

In 2010, Mel moved to Hospital Radio Basingstoke (HRB), where she continued to develop her on-air style and strengthened her commitment to local broadcasting.

Her next big step came in 2017 when she joined Wey Valley Radio as part of the station’s FM relaunch, taking on the Breakfast Show. For the past nine years, Mel has described it as “a joy” to present on Wey Valley Radio championing local talent, supporting community events, and helping shape the sound of the station as it expanded across 101.1FM, online and now DAB.

She currently hosts Sunday mornings from 8am–12pm, bringing listeners a warm, uplifting mix of conversation, music and local stories.

In 2020, Mel broadened her technical and production skills by completing a sound engineering course at BBC Wood Norton, which opened the door to freelancing with BBC Radio Surrey and BBC Radio Sussex. She worked across both stations as a Reporter, Travel Presenter and Producer, before securing a permanent BBC contract in 2022.

Over five years, she produced and presented arts, culture and community-focused content, reported live from events, developed creative features and supported the BBC’s Breakfast output.

Mel also continues to volunteer her time and talent across community radio. She presents on Sugar Kayne Radio, broadcasting across North London, Hertfordshire and Essex, where she delivers music-led and culture-focused shows that spotlight emerging artists and creative voices. She is also a presenter on Overton Radio, hosting a regular programme featuring music, local conversation and creative community engagement.

At Wey Valley Radio, Mel is not only a presenter but an active supporter of the station’s community mission developing programme ideas, coordinating content, supporting outside broadcasts and strengthening relationships with local creatives, musicians and cultural partners.

Across every station she has worked with, Mel brings the same trademark qualities: warmth, curiosity, professionalism and a genuine love for the communities she serves. Whether she’s producing, presenting or reporting live from local events, Mel is dedicated to making radio that is inclusive, engaging and full of heart.
